Several  workshops  will be offered at the Pacific Conference:
 

Wednesday October 6

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Allen Vickers of J&W Scientific (tel. 916-351-0387) will conduct 2 sequential half day workshops:  "Capillary GC I"  an introduction to capillary GC theory, GC system basics and elements (injector, detector, columns), essential maintenance, and troubleshooting and "Capillary GC II" which covers more advanced topics including column selection and GC method optimization.
Price $30 for each half-day workshop before September 15 registration deadline.
On-site registration price will be $50 each.

1:00 PM - 5:00 PM Robert Messerschmidt from SpectraTech (tel. 203-944-6248) will conduct a half day course "Successful FTIR Sampling for the New Millennium," an exploration of modern and emerging FTIR sampling techniques.
Price $30  before September 15 registration deadline.
On-site registration price will be $50.

The ACS Office of Legislative & Governmental Affairs will host a
free half-day workshop.  The OLGA workshop will provide individual training, coaching, support, and project ideas to ACS members interested in government relations and building statewide coalitions of ACS local sections to work together on government relations issues.

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Steve Silen from Arco will conduct a full day workshop on Understanding & Implementing ISO 14000. This course provides attendees with up-to-date information on ISO 14000 and what is required to meet its requirements related to environmental management systems, environmental auditing, environmental labeling, life cycle assessment, and environmental aspects in product standards.
Topics include an overview of ISO 14000 and its current status, a detailed review of the elements of ISO 14000, the benefits of complying with ISO 14000 and becoming certified, how to establish an effective ISO 14000 program, and auditing the effectiveness of a facility's environmental management program.
Price $150  before September 15 registration deadline.  On-site registration price will be $200.

Dr. Jan Hayes and Dr. Pat Perez will conduct a free workshop: "Diversity on the Classroom: A Faculty Teaching Workshop" explores ways to weave cross-cultural/multicultural threads into your chemistry curriculum.

3:00 PM - 5:00 PM  Student Affiliate Regional Meeting Planning Workshop, no charge to attend.
